G Hughes Jan 2013.
Going to add some resources over the Christmas holidays. Whilst I'm at it, it would be good to add as many as possible! If you get 10 minutes free, please send some resources through. 1 resource each = over 300 new items!

I have posted this website on the Blog before but it's worth another mention. Check out Russell Haggar's excellent website: http://www.earlhamsociologypages.co.uk/govpol.html Very good for Modern Studies and Higher Politics. Further to this, Russell is developing new resources that I reckon will be useful for N5 Crime and the Law so keep your eyes peeled for those. Here is one just completed with bang up-to-date crime stats for England and Wales: http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/dcp171778_283456.pdf

Modern Studies Film Screening at Edinburgh International Film Festival
Monday 25 June, 10.00, Cineworld, £2.60 per pupil (teachers free), Suitable for S4 - S6
One Mile Away | Penny Woolcock | UK 2012 | 90 min
Featuring a new British documentary, the Modern Studies Film Screening allows students a new way of learning about the subject. One Mile Away follows two young men from rival gangs as they attempt to put aside their differences and end the violent war that has been raging on the streets of Birmingham for over 20 years. Faced with a seemingly impossible task and opposition from all sides, the 2011 riots suddenly explode and have an unexpected impact on the quest for peace. One Mile Away is a compelling tale of courage and determination with a smooth hip-hop soundtrack.
The film covers key themes for Modern Studies including citizenship, social exclusion and conflict resolution and takes a look at last summer's riots from an on-the-ground point of view. Penny Woolcock (Director) and guests from the film will be in attendance after the film to discuss the issues raised.

Great resource for Modern Studies teachers http://www.guardian.co.uk/global-development. Its a new section on the Guardian website. Particulalry good is the section tracking the progress of the MDG's. Find that section here.
Ps. Still looking for resources if you get a chance - a few Higher added.
G Hughes, 1/10/2010
I have updated the site. In doing this I have realised that although I have a USB full of hundreds of files, I am only comfortable putting stuff up that I have personally made or edited. So, a wee call to people who have joined so far - could you send me some resources if possible?
G Hughes, 16/9/2010
Currently in the process of updating the site. Doubt the Higher section will be sorted but hope to get some stuff on it soon. The Resource Area should have some good material on it for the end of this month. Cheers.
